What stool height is right?

“How do I know which stool height is right?” is one of the most common questions we get asked about the Vail Stool. Luckily, we’re here to help explain the difference between the Vail Bar and Counter Stools so you can get the right height.

Counter Height

Counter height is standard with kitchen islands that are the same height as the countertops.

  • Standard counter height is 35" to 36" above floor level, meaning your stool seat must measure 24" to 27" from the ground.
  • The Vail Counter Stool seat height is 24.5" and gives ample knee room under the counter.
  • Double-check the height of your counter from the floor to ensure it's in that 35" to 36" range.

Bar Height

Bar height is standard with any bar or hightop table. These are taller than your normal counter or kitchen island.

  • Standard bar height is 40" to 42" above floor level, meaning your stool seat should be around 29" to 30" from the ground.
  • The Vail Bar Stool seat height is 30" and can fit in the proper "bar height" space, giving ample room for your thighs and knees.
  • Double-check the height of your counter from the floor to ensure it's in that 40" to 42" range.
